Job Overview: The position of Individual Contractor for Multimedia Content Production is focused on creating and submitting multimedia content packages in Spanish that highlight the work of UN News Language Units. The contractor will be responsible for producing a maximum of twelve approved multimedia packages that showcase local voices and field-based storytelling related to UN activities, particularly in the areas of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), human rights, and climate issues. The contractor will work closely with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan the production of quality multimedia content, ensuring that it aligns with UN priorities and effectively engages the target audience. This role requires a strong understanding of multimedia storytelling and the ability to produce content suitable for both news and social media platforms. The contractor will also be expected to conduct research, write stories, and coordinate technical arrangements for interviews in the assigned countries, all while adhering to UN News guidelines and maintaining editorial clarity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Individual Contractor shall perform the following duties and responsibilities: • Liaise with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan the production of quality multimedia content on various issues, ensuring that field-based narratives align with UN priorities and campaigns. • Pitch story ideas and agree on timelines and content to be produced, incorporating diverse storytelling approaches suitable for news and social media platforms. • Research content from verifiable sources, write stories and scripts, and create multimedia stories (audio/video/photo/text) for UN News language platforms, focusing on local angles and target audiences. • Coordinate technical arrangements and organize interviews in the countries of assignment as required. • Follow UN News guidelines to ensure editorial clarity and sound political judgment, including due diligence regarding permissions and copyright, especially concerning minors. • Demonstrate well-rounded experience in broadcast/digital journalism and multimedia production in the assigned languages, with a strong emphasis on video production skills. • Provide references and work samples as requested.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications: • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. • A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred. • Experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s) is required. • Proven experience in the full range of multimedia production, including video production, filming, and editing, is essential. • Experience in recording and editing audio material is desirable. • Familiarity with digital content publishing and the incorporation of photos and graphics is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred, as it provides a solid foundation for understanding the principles of multimedia storytelling and production.
Experience: Candidates must have experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s). This includes a comprehensive understanding of multimedia production processes and the ability to create engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences. Experience in video production, including filming and editing, is highly desirable, as is experience in audio recording and editing. Familiarity with digital content publishing is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, as the primary focus is on producing content in this language. Knowledge of English and other UN official languages is desirable, as it may enhance the contractor's ability to produce material that can be adapted for broader audiences.
Additional Notes: This position is located in the UN News Section of the News and Content Branch within the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The contract duration is for a maximum of six months, with the number of multimedia packages to be produced determined in discussion with the commissioning office, depending on funding availability. All packages must receive prior approval before production.
