Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Governing Bodies Secretariat under the Office of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The primary focus of this role is to support the organization and servicing of meetings for the Governing Bodies of UN-Habitat, which include the United Nations Habitat Assembly, Executive Board, and the Committee of Permanent Representatives. The intern will work closely with the External Relations Officer and will be responsible for enhancing communication with Member States and Governments, as well as preparing for meetings and events related to the governing bodies. This role requires a proactive approach to research, documentation, and communication, ensuring that all materials are prepared efficiently and effectively for high-level discussions and decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: drafting background papers, reports, speeches, and other correspondence; posting meeting documents on UN-Habitat’s Governance page; creating meeting links for Governing Bodies meetings; conducting research and preparing summaries of background materials; reviewing and updating information on relevant websites; providing support for the preparation and follow-up of consultative meetings and conferences; responding to inquiries related to the Governing Bodies Secretariat; creating and updating the Member States directory; and updating the roadmap towards key meetings. The intern may also be required to perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.

Educational Background:
The preferred educational background for this internship includes a bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, or other related fields. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or graduation must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates must have experience in drafting correspondence and proficiency in computer software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
