It was mandated by the UN General Assembly and serves as the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat collaborates with various partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities, aiming to leverage urbanization as a transformative force that reduces inequality, discrimination, and poverty. The organization is dedicated to ensuring proper records management and knowledge sharing to support decision-making processes.

Job Overview:
The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of Knowledge Management Support at UN-Habitat, specifically within the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovations Division, Knowledge and Innovations Branch. The primary focus of this internship is to support the Agency Archives and Records Management Programme. The intern will engage in various activities related to the processing of archives, digitization of documents, and management of audio-visual archives. This role is crucial for maintaining institutional memory and facilitating organizational learning, ensuring that timely information is available to support decision-making processes within the agency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including: participating in the processing of archives according to established principles; identifying, digitizing, and uploading relevant documents from past UN-Habitat projects to the knowledge resource page on the in-house electronic system; assisting in the identification, listing, transfer, and preservation of non-current records; participating in the appraisal and disposal of records and developing finding aids for efficient access; contributing to the content management of the intranet; and providing management support for the audio-visual archives by processing collections of photographs, videos, films, and sound recordings. Additionally, the intern will assist in the implementation of digital collaboration tools such as OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint Online.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:

Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, relevant experience in the field of study is necessary. Experience in the survey and appraisal of official records is required, as well as familiarity with Electronic and Document Records Management applications for managing both paper and born-digital records. This experience will be beneficial in fulfilling the responsibilities of the internship effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile for the position.
