Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Planning, Finance & Economy Section of UN-Habitat involves assisting in the definition and implementation of the communication strategy for the section. The intern will support various communication activities, events, and materials, contributing to the dissemination of information related to urban planning, finance, and local economic development. The role requires a proactive approach to researching and preparing informative materials, writing articles and reports, and engaging in graphic design and multimedia content creation. The intern will also be involved in monitoring communication channels and metrics, participating in team meetings, and assisting in the planning of events and activities related to UN-Habitat's projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communication within an international organization focused on sustainable urban development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting the communication activities of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section by contributing to events and materials.
Identifying, collating, and preparing informative and promotional materials for diverse media.
Assisting in writing news articles, newsletters, reports, and concept notes.
Supporting graphic design and multimedia editing for outreach materials such as publications, presentations, and social media content.
Monitoring communication channels and metrics associated with projects.
Researching best practices for communication and identifying suitable media for project objectives.
Participating in team meetings, preparing minutes, and coordinating follow-up activities.
Creating surveys and assisting in their analysis and translation into various communication formats.
Planning and assisting in activities and events related to UN-Habitat's projects. 1
Writing, reviewing, and updating content for the website and social media platforms. 1
Liaising with the UN-Habitat Advocacy, Outreach and Communication Unit to ensure relevant content dissemination. 1
Compiling a library of photos, videos, and stories for communication purposes. 1
Performing other functions as required by the section.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Educational Background: The preferred areas of study for applicants include Communication, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, International Development, or related fields relevant to sustainable urban development. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship type they are applying for. Experience in urban design, communication, or graphic design is required, along with strong writing and research skills. Applicants should provide examples of their writing experience, including content for social media, reports, and articles.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable and can enhance the candidate's profile.
