Job Overview: The Medical Assistant position at the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Harare, Zimbabwe, is crucial for supporting the health assessment programs for migrants. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer and the Senior Medical Assistant, providing essential information and services related to health assessments and other IOM services. The role requires flexibility as the Medical Assistant may be assigned to either the reception and data processing unit or the call centre. Responsibilities include registering migrants, scheduling medical appointments, maintaining records, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The Medical Assistant will also be involved in data processing activities, including entering biodata, managing medical files, and transmitting documents to relevant partners. This position is vital for ensuring that migrants receive timely and accurate health assessments, contributing to their overall well-being and integration into new communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Medical Assistant will have a diverse set of duties, including:
Call Centre Duties: - Provide information to migrants regarding health assessments via phone. - Register migrants in the IOM database and schedule medical appointments. - Maintain daily statistics related to health assessments and contribute to customer satisfaction evaluations.
Reception and Data Entry Duties: - Explain the registration process to applicants and check their identity. - Enter biodata into the appropriate platform and manage medical forms and documents. - Prepare and package medical files for mobile health assessment missions. - Transmit completed medical forms and ensure accurate tracking of documents sent via courier. - File incoming and outgoing correspondence related to IOM medical issues. - Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree with at least two years of relevant working experience, or a Secondary School Diploma with at least four years of relevant experience. A certificate in IT or data entry is considered an advantage. Knowledge of medical terminology and previous experience in a medical setting or with NGOs is beneficial. Familiarity with data analysis tools and healthcare systems is also advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a University Degree from an accredited institution recognized by UNESCO or a Secondary School Diploma with significant relevant experience. A certificate in IT or data entry is a plus, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in computer data entry, data analysis, or working in a call centre, preferably within a medical institution. Previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is advantageous. Familiarity with data management principles and healthcare-specific systems is also beneficial, as is knowledge of the Interim Federal Health Programme (IFHP).
Languages: Fluency in English and a local language is required, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in IOM's official languages, which include French and Spanish, is considered an asset and will be evaluated during the selection process.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Zimbabwe will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
