Job Overview: The Communications, Reporting, and Research/Analysis Intern will be integral to UNEP's Climate security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security initiatives, particularly in Somalia, where climate change poses significant risks to security and community stability. The intern will support the Climate advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor in various tasks, including research, reporting, and strategic communication. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about environmental issues and are looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international organization. The intern will engage in research activities, assist in drafting reports, and contribute to the development of communication materials that highlight the intersection of climate change and security. The position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with stakeholders and contribute to policy development efforts aimed at fostering peace and environmental sustainability in a challenging context.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Climate Security Advisor, including:
Research and Reporting: - Develop talking points for events and assist in preparing research and reports. - Draft written reports and concept notes, focusing on climate security in Somalia. - Conduct desk-based research that integrates relevant data on climate security.
Communications Support: - Draft content for reports, publications, and events related to climate security. - Provide research support for policy development initiatives. - Assist in data visualization and prepare infographics and factsheets.
Event and Meeting Participation: - Provide administrative and substantive support for meetings and events, including minute-taking. - Attend JOSP meetings and contribute to reporting processes. - Participate in environmental security-focused events in Nairobi.
General Support: - Assist with logistics, scheduling, and coordination of team engagements and meetings. - Engage in additional tasks as needed to support the team’s objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong research and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and proficiency in data management and visualization tools. Organizational skills with attention to detail are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn about climate security and environmental issues.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a graduate program in environmental studies, international development, social sciences, politics, or related fields. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate security and the role of policy in addressing these challenges.
Experience: While prior professional experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer work in environmental studies, international development, or related fields will be considered an asset.
