The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) within UNOPS focuses on peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development operations, combining various portfolios to serve partners with a global perspective.
Job Overview: The intern will support the Climate Action Team under the supervision of the Chief of Staff. This role involves assisting in organizing high-level meetings and events, conducting research, drafting concept notes and proposals, and preparing reports on climate action projects. The intern will also be responsible for collecting and organizing climate-related data, ensuring accuracy, and tracking climate action commitments from non-Party stakeholders. This position is crucial in supporting the UN's climate action strategy, which aims to accelerate the transition to a resilient, low-carbon world while addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize high-level meetings and events, including logistics, drafting background materials, and summarizing key points and action items.
Conduct research and prepare drafts of concept notes and proposals related to climate action initiatives.
Draft reports on projects, compile post-activity reports, create presentations, and assist in organizing data collected from surveys.
Track and document climate action commitments and transition plans of non-Party stakeholders, compiling relevant updates and key developments.
Support the collection and organization of climate-related data, ensuring accuracy and consistency while preparing insights and summaries.
Assist in other Climate Action Team activities as needed, contributing to the overall mission of the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and a determination to meet deadlines. Familiarity with the work of the United Nations and its mandate is an asset. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, treating all individuals with respect and sensitivity to differences.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program such as a Bachelor, Masters, or Ph.D. (or equivalent) or have graduated within three years prior to the application date. Preferred fields of study include International Relations, Diplomacy, International Environment, Climate, or related areas.
Experience: Introductory experience in project research, coordination, management, support, or administration is desired. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the UN system and its operations, particularly in relation to climate action and sustainable development.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This internship is for a duration of four months, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance, availability of funds, and necessity of services. It is important to note that this internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions.
