Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Education Troika Lead position is designed to support UNICEF's leadership role in the education sector in Mozambique. The role involves co-leading the education Troika, which coordinates the contributions of external partners to the education sector dialogue. This position is crucial for facilitating effective communication and collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Culture and various civil society partners. The UNV will be responsible for organizing regular meetings, ensuring the flow of information, and providing strategic leadership to enhance the effectiveness of the education sector's dialogue. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying key priorities for dialogue and streamlining working groups to improve collaboration among partners. The UNV will work closely with the Education Chief and will play a vital role in ensuring that all children have equal access to quality education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the organization of standard and ad-hoc meetings under the Education Troika, including the Local Education Group (LEG). This includes developing and sharing meeting agendas, managing logistics, and distributing minutes.
  • Set up and manage a joint platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among partners in the education sector. This involves mapping partners, organizing collaborative platforms for information exchange, and ensuring relevant information is shared with all partners.
  • Assist the Troika UNICEF lead in improving the effectiveness of existing dialogue by identifying key priorities for dialogue in 2025/2026, streamlining working groups and task forces, and enhancing the engagement of civil society organizations (CSOs) and provincial level dialogue.
  • Ensure that communication and information flow smoothly among coordination partners, the Ministry of Education, and MEPT.
  • Provide strategic leadership around aid effectiveness and support to the Ministry, ensuring high standards of predictability, accountability, and partnership in aid provided to the Ministry.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Adaptability and flexibility are essential, as well as creativity in problem-solving. Candidates should demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making abilities, along with effective planning and organizing skills. Professionalism and self-management are also critical attributes for this role. Experience in the education sector or working with governmental and non-governmental organizations is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in education policy, management, or a related area will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the education sector and the challenges faced by children in accessing quality education.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in education, project management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or civil society organizations in the education sector is preferred. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing projects and facilitating dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Mozambique or the region would be an advantage, as it would facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Maputo, Mozambique. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. A monthly Volunteer Living Allowance will be provided to cover housing, utilities, and normal living expenses. Health and life insurance are included, along with provisions for dependents. The position requires confirmation of fully vaccinated status against COVID-19 with a WHO-endorsed vaccine prior to appointment.
