Job Overview: The Demographic Data Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's mission by providing data analysis and technical assistance related to demographic trends affecting children. The consultant will work closely with the demographics team in the Data and Analytics Section to conceptualize and implement various data projects, including the IDAC child migration and displacement data portal and demographic dashboards. The consultant will also be responsible for producing publications and training materials that will aid in evidence-based policymaking to protect and empower children. This role requires a commitment to UNICEF's mission and the ability to work independently while collaborating with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: 1) Supporting the implementation of the IDAC child migration and displacement data portal by preparing data files, ensuring accurate data display, and monitoring the portal's implementation in collaboration with external vendors. 2) Conceptualizing and planning the demographic dashboard, conducting desk reviews of comparable dashboards, and developing content and structure in collaboration with the demographic team. 3) Assisting in the production of two IDAC briefs/publications through in-depth data analysis, including drafting data analysis plans and preparing final results with necessary adjustments to visual data representations. 4) Providing technical support for IDAC side events and working groups, including developing content for webinars and training materials, and conducting desk reviews on new methodologies. 5) Offering technical assistance for the PROSPECTS 2.0 project, supporting various sectors in their deliverables related to children on the move. 6) Updating demographic databases and producing demographic data for UNICEF's Data Warehouse, ensuring that all data is current and accurately reflects the situation of children globally.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Statistics, Demography, or a related field that emphasizes quantitative methods. Additionally, a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in data work is required. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of migration and displacement issues, strong analytical and statistical skills, and proficiency in R programming. Familiarity with GIS and related software is considered an asset. Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing, are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in an international environment under tight deadlines. The ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate well within a team is also crucial for success in this role.

The consultant will be required to submit a financial proposal that includes costs per deliverable and total lump-sum for the assignment, as well as any travel costs and daily subsistence allowances if applicable. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel expenses and requires that selected candidates have current health insurance coverage at the time of contract award. Payment for professional fees will be contingent upon the submission of satisfactory deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if the deliverables do not meet the required standards.
