Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Area Based Approach to Development Emergency Initiatives (ABADEI) in Afghanistan. This position involves working under the supervision of the Programme/Project Manager and will require the assistant to engage in various tasks related to program planning, implementation, and monitoring. The assistant will be responsible for documenting project stages, preparing financial reports, and providing logistical support for meetings and workshops. The role is vital in ensuring that the project meets its objectives of restoring local economies and enhancing community resilience, particularly in light of the ongoing crises in Afghanistan. The assistant will also be expected to promote volunteerism and engage with local communities, thereby contributing to the broader mission of UNDP in fostering sustainable development and social cohesion.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer Project Assistant include:
  • Reporting to the Area Manager while also supporting the ABADEI Programme Management Unit (PMU).
  • Assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the program.
  • Documenting specific stages of project implementation, including best practices and case studies.
  • Preparing financial documentation such as requests for payments, expense reports, and budget revisions.
  • Reviewing financial reports from implementing partners and ensuring proper documentation for expenditures.
  • Coordinating with consultants and partners regarding deliverables and payments.
  • Providing logistical support for workshops, seminars, and meetings.
  • Assisting in organizing consultations and documenting minutes from meetings.
  • Supporting the Regional Office in project activities and ensuring effective implementation. 1
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the Project Manager. Additionally, the assistant is encouraged to engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to the UN Volunteers program.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a range of qualifications, including strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. The candidate should possess good communication skills, both written and verbal, and be proficient in financial documentation and reporting. Familiarity with project management principles and practices is essential, as is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work under pressure. The assistant should demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to the values of the UN, including accountability, adaptability, and creativity.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer Project Assistant position should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, development studies, or project management.
