Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team at UN-Habitat. This position involves contributing to communication efforts, providing project support, and managing knowledge related to the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including local and regional governments, to ensure that the SDGs are effectively integrated into local planning and governance frameworks. The role requires a proactive approach to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among different entities involved in sustainable development. The consultant will also be expected to engage in activities that promote the understanding and implementation of the SDGs at the local level, thereby enhancing the capacity of governments to address urban challenges and improve living conditions for their citizens.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include, but are not limited to: 1) Assisting in the development and dissemination of communication materials related to SDG localization; 2) Supporting the planning and execution of projects aimed at enhancing local government capacities for SDG implementation; 3) Conducting research and analysis on best practices in SDG localization and urban development; 4) Facilitating workshops and training sessions for local government officials and stakeholders; 5) Collaborating with other UN agencies and international partners to align efforts in promoting sustainable urban development; 6) Monitoring and evaluating the progress of SDG localization initiatives and providing recommendations for improvement; 7) Contributing to reports and documentation that highlight the achievements and challenges of localizing the SDGs; 8) Engaging with community members and local organizations to gather insights and feedback on SDG-related projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Communications, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of relevant working experience in sustainable development, urban planning, local development, or project management is required. Experience with the Agenda 2030 and local implementation of the SDGs is highly valued. Professional experience within the UN system or a reputable international organization is desirable, as is prior knowledge of international development practices and policies.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Communications, International Relations, Development Studies, or similar disciplines. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of sustainable development and urban planning, as well as for effectively communicating and engaging with various stakeholders involved in these processes.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in areas related to sustainable development, urban planning, local development, and project management. Candidates with experience specifically related to the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and the localization of the SDGs will be given preference. Experience working in the UN system or with international organizations is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational frameworks and collaborative approaches necessary for this role.

Languages:
