Job Overview: The internship position at the IAEA Liaison Office in New York is designed for individuals who are pursuing or have recently completed a university degree. The primary goal of the internship is to provide practical work experience that aligns with the intern's academic studies or professional interests while contributing to the IAEA's mission. Interns will gain exposure to the workings of the IAEA and the broader United Nations system, particularly in relation to nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Interns will work under the supervision of the Director of the IAEA Liaison Office, assisting in various tasks that support the office's functions and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for attending and representing the IAEA at various meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council, and other relevant events. They will take notes and report on these meetings, assisting in the preparation for the Agency's participation in UN-related discussions. Interns will interact with delegations from Permanent Missions to the United Nations and representatives from other intergovernmental organizations. They will also assist visitors from IAEA headquarters during their duty travel and help prepare outreach presentations for public engagement. Additional tasks may be assigned to support the overall work of the Liaison Office as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in international relations, international security, or a related field. A general understanding of the United Nations system is required, along with knowledge of nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear technology being an asset. Excellent written and spoken English is essential, and proficiency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) is considered an advantage. Candidates must also provide two signed letters of recommendation with their application.
Educational Background: Applicants must have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a first degree. Candidates may apply up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important to note that candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
Experience: The internship is aimed at individuals who are either currently enrolled in a university program or have recently graduated. Therefore, while specific prior work experience is not mandatory, a background in relevant fields such as international relations or security studies is beneficial.
