Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the authority of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Senior Education Coordinator in UNESCO Mozambique. The primary focus of this role is to assist the Education Unit in implementing the SDG4 - Education 2030 Agenda in Mozambique. This includes building a quality inclusive education system, addressing contemporary challenges for sustainable development, and reinforcing leadership for Education 2030 through advocacy, partnerships, and monitoring. The UNV will play a crucial role in coordinating activities related to UNESCO's role as co-chair of Strategic Priority One (Human Development) of the current UNSDCF 2022-2026, planning and implementing advocacy activities, developing joint programs with other UN agencies, and mobilizing resources to support education policy analysis and sector management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of advocacy activities; developing joint programmes and projects with other UN agencies; identifying key stakeholders for collaboration on education issues; supporting UNESCO's participation in the Common Country Assessment (CCA) planned for 2025; mobilizing resources for education sector planning and assessments; conducting periodic reviews and reporting on UNESCO’s education programming; representing UNESCO in coordination forums; engaging with national authorities and civil society; and supporting UNESCO’s participation in regional structures and processes as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of operations relevant to UNESCO's technical capabilities, possess discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to liaise with various actors, especially in senior positions. They should exhibit professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and respect for diversity. The ability to manage information confidentially and objectively, along with excellent interpersonal skills, is essential. Candidates should also have effective organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to work under pressure, and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Educational Background:
A degree in education, social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in education policy, development, or related areas would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the education sector and the challenges it faces in Mozambique and globally.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience in education, development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the UN system, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG4, and experience in advocacy, partnership development, and project management will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Portuguese is highly desirable. Proficiency in other UN languages would be an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in the UNESCO Country Office for Mozambique, and the contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance. The Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are included, along with health insurance for up to 3 dependents. A Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly for non-family duty stations classified as hardship categories D or E.
