Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) in its efforts to engage financial institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. This position involves managing relationships with banks, insurers, and other stakeholders to promote the implementation of global finance sector principles aimed at integrating sustainability into financial market practices. The consultant will assist in the outreach and capacity-building efforts related to the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI). The role requires a proactive approach to enhance communication and collaboration among various stakeholders, ensuring that financial institutions are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to adopt sustainable practices. The consultant will also be responsible for organizing workshops, webinars, and training sessions to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices in sustainable finance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include engaging financial institutions to expand membership and signatories to the PRB and PSI, maintaining contact information for signatories and stakeholders, and supporting the implementation of workshops and training sessions. The consultant will coordinate the translation of materials, assist in research related to regional regulatory frameworks, and support the dissemination of results on various thematic areas such as climate change, social issues, and pollution. Additionally, the consultant will monitor progress, manage communications, and assist with administrative processes, including reporting and invoice payments. The role also involves updating UNEP FI's regional web page and organizing key events such as the Regional Roundtable.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess proven relationship management skills and a strong understanding of sustainability and sustainable finance. Experience working with financial institutions is essential, along with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders diplomatically and efficiently. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, are required, as well as the ability to deliver updates and organize events. Project management skills are desirable, and candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to their work.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in law, economics, social sciences, business administration, marketing/communications, international relations, administration, or finance is required. A Master’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree if combined with zero work experience.
Experience: At least two years of professional experience in sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and project management is required. Candidates should have experience at the intersection of sustainable development and finance, demonstrating their ability to support initiatives that promote sustainability within financial institutions.
Languages: Fluency in English is required as it is the working language of UNEP FI. Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, and knowledge of Spanish is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: This position is remote and is expected to last for a duration of 9 months. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head of UNEP FI and report directly to the Programme Management Officer.
