Job Overview: The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Officer plays a crucial role in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs aimed at disarming and reintegrating former combatants into society. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, social sciences, management, international economics, international relations, law, development, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in community violence reduction (CVR) and disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) is required for candidates with a Master's degree. For those with a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of seven years of relevant experience is necessary. Experience in small arms control, conflict management, socio-economic recovery, and international affairs related to peace-building operations is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations Common System or comparable international organizations in conflict or post-conflict environments is also preferred.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory for this position.
