Job Posting Organization: The position is located within the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), specifically in the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section (HTMSS) of the Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA). Job Overview: The Consultant will play a crucial role in the GLO.ACT initiative, which aims to enhance the response to trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants. This position requires the consultant to work closely with the GLO.ACT Project Coordinator and National Project Officers to establish a Women’s Network chapter for South Asia, develop communication outputs, and engage with stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible for creating a results-based narrative report, leading resource mobilization efforts, and organizing workshops and seminars. The role demands a strategic approach to stakeholder engagement and the ability to communicate effectively with various partners to ensure project visibility and success.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will lead consultations to establish a GLO.ACT Women’s Network chapter, develop narrative reports aligned with monitoring and evaluation outcomes, and create concept notes for resource mobilization. They will liaise with partner countries and donor entities, develop technical publications on trafficking and smuggling, and organize regional and national workshops. The consultant will also manage stakeholder engagement strategies, serve as the Master of Ceremonies for high-level workshops, and review external communications deliverables to ensure adherence to UN quality standards. Collaboration with the HTMSS Communications Officer and UNODC Advocacy Section will be essential for managing outreach opportunities and utilizing communication tools effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international relations, communication, political science, law, social science, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, media engagement, or public relations is required, along with experience in implementing programs to combat trafficking and smuggling. Familiarity with social media tools and experience in managing professional networks, particularly those supporting women, are desirable qualifications.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as international relations, communication, political science, law, or social science is required. A first-level university degree in these fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience, may also be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in communications, media engagement, or public relations. Candidates should have experience in implementing programs or projects aimed at preventing and combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. Experience working with countries in Central Asia and South Asia is also desirable, as is experience with the United Nations or other international organizations.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, including oral and written proficiency and excellent drafting skills. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.
