The New York Portfolio Office (NYPO) specifically aids the United Nations Secretariat and other New York-based UN entities in fulfilling UNOPS's mandate.

Job Overview:
The Project Management Intern will support the Climate Action Team (CAT) within UNOPS, which is dedicated to addressing climate change and its impacts. The intern will assist in organizing high-level meetings, conducting research, drafting reports, and compiling climate-related data. This role is crucial in supporting the development of national climate action plans and facilitating dialogue on energy transitions. The intern will gain exposure to project management within the UN context and contribute to initiatives aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to climate action.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include organizing logistics for high-level meetings, drafting background materials, summarizing key points, and tracking climate action commitments. They will also assist in preparing concept notes and proposals, compiling post-activity reports, and creating presentations. The intern will be involved in collecting and organizing climate-related data, ensuring its accuracy, and preparing insights and summaries. Additional support for other Climate Action Team activities may be required as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a university program, preferably in fields related to International Relations, Climate, or Environmental Studies. Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. Familiarity with UN operations and mandates is advantageous, as is experience in project research or administration.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in relevant fields such as International Relations, Climate Studies, or Environmental Science. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of climate action and project management within the UN framework.

Experience:
Introductory experience in project research, coordination, or administration is desired. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment, showcasing their ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate within the UN system.

This internship is for a duration of four months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
