Job Overview: The Transport Assistant will play a crucial role in the Transport Unit, responsible for managing the fleet of vehicles and ensuring efficient transport operations within the mission. The incumbent will monitor the distribution of transport assets, conduct inventory checks, and maintain records in fleet management databases. The position requires coordination with various stakeholders, including the Mission Vehicle Establishment Committee, to ensure compliance with established procedures. The Transport Assistant will also be involved in technical evaluations of bids from vendors, ensuring the availability of vehicles for emergency tasks, and providing technical expertise on safety inspections. Duties and Responsibilities: The Transport Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: monitoring the distribution of non-expendable transport assets, conducting bi-annual physical inventories, maintaining records in fleet management databases, coordinating VEC meetings, implementing the Vehicle Replacement Policy, processing vehicle write-off cases, providing technical expertise on COE and safety inspections, and preparing statistical reports on fleet utilization. Additionally, the incumbent will assist with inventory checks in the Transport Warehouse, prepare financial summaries, draft requisition proposals, and ensure routine transportation requirements are identified. The role also involves analyzing transportation requests, establishing service timetables, preparing information for customers, ensuring maximum utilization of vehicle resources, and maintaining documentation related to assigned duties. The Transport Assistant will also conduct driving test assessments, monitor vendor performance, and participate in the development of the Transport Unit’s annual budget proposals and Standard Operating Procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license is required, and a technical or vocational certificate in auto mechanics, mechanical engineering, transportation, logistics, or related fields is desirable. The position requires a strong understanding of UN financial regulations and rules, as well as the ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and effective planning and organizing skills.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with additional qualifications such as a technical or vocational certificate in relevant fields will be preferred. Experience: A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle transport operations or related areas is required.
