Job Overview:
The Movement Control Assistant plays a crucial role in the logistics and transportation operations within the UNSOS. This position involves managing the movement of cargo and passengers, ensuring that all transportation requests are handled efficiently and safely. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating air, road, and sea transportation, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining accurate records of cargo movements. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure that all logistical operations run smoothly. The Movement Control Assistant will also be involved in data collection and analysis to monitor performance and improve operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Movement Control Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: receiving and registering cargo movement requests, coordinating transportation logistics, ensuring proper storage and packing of cargo, informing consignees about deliveries, providing technical guidance to personnel, compiling cargo statistics, preparing cargo manifests, facilitating passenger boarding processes, ensuring compliance with aviation safety regulations, assisting VIP passengers, and performing data analysis to support operational objectives. The role also involves creating interactive dashboards to present findings and collaborating with stakeholders to track key performance indicators (KPIs). The Movement Control Assistant must be proactive in identifying and resolving issues related to cargo and passenger movements, ensuring that all operations align with established procedures and safety standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid national driving license and additional technical or vocational qualifications in logistics, transportation, or management. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is desirable. The role requires a high level of professionalism, teamwork, and client orientation, as the Movement Control Assistant will be interacting with various stakeholders and clients. The ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations is essential. Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may have their minimum experience requirement reduced. Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in aviation, movement control services, or general transport-related fields is required. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to three years. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics operations and the ability to manage complex transportation tasks effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is also beneficial and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the role. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.

Additional Notes:
The appointment for this position is for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of extension. This role is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Somalia. Candidates selected from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses.
