Job Overview: The Associate Programme Management Officer position is situated within the Business Management Branch of the United Nations Development Coordination Office in New York. The incumbent will report directly to the Programme Management Officer (Legal) and will be responsible for supporting the coordination and management of legal issues while providing general administrative support to the Business Management Branch, DCO, Regional Offices, and Resident Coordinator Offices. The role requires a proactive approach to liaising with different components of the organization to ensure a cohesive and efficient management of legal issues and administrative processes. The position demands a strong understanding of legal frameworks and the ability to conduct thorough research and analysis on various legal queries and trends within the Resident Coordinator System.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Programme Management Officer will carry out a variety of responsibilities, including conducting basic research on legal and operational activities related to the Resident Coordinator System, analyzing and summarizing findings from diverse sources. The incumbent will provide substantive support for the coordination of legal functions, including reviewing and analyzing legal queries, overseeing administrative tasks, and managing legal cases. Additionally, the officer will assist in preparing and coordinating meetings, workshops, and interactive sessions, contributing to the development of tools and guidance notes. The role also involves drafting various written outputs such as background papers, analytical notes, and reports, as well as providing administrative support for meetings and conferences. The officer will undertake outreach activities, participate in training workshops, and prepare interoffice memoranda and summary notes. Furthermore, the incumbent will review legal documents and identify key issues, similarities, and inconsistencies, while performing other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of administrative, budgetary, financial, and human resources policies and procedures, as well as legal policies relevant to the United Nations. The ability to apply various UN administrative rules and regulations in work situations is essential. Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and proficiency in another UN official language is considered an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'Fluent' in all four areas: reading, speaking, writing, and understanding, while knowledge is rated as 'Confident' in two of the four areas.
