Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and has a mission to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The organization emphasizes the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and it works towards achieving transformative results in maternal health, family planning, and the elimination of gender-based violence. UNFPA's strategic plan for 2022-2025 aims to accelerate progress towards the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on women's and girls' access to health services and rights.
Job Overview: The Programme Analyst will play a crucial role in providing technical and coordination support for the implementation of the UNFPA/UNICEF Joint Programme on Adolescent Girls. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and other partners, to ensure the effective delivery of interventions aimed at improving adolescent sexual and reproductive health. The Programme Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the results achieved during the implementation of the programme, ensuring alignment with national policies and UNFPA's strategic objectives. The role also involves capacity building of implementing partners and facilitating the generation and dissemination of evidence-based practices to enhance programme effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing technical support for programme development and management, ensuring that all interventions align with government priorities and UNFPA policies.
Facilitating donor field visits and ensuring compliance with UNFPA policies at the sub-national level.
Implementing capacity-building activities for Joint Programme Implementing Partners to ensure adherence to UNFPA standards.
Conducting programme monitoring visits and proposing remedial actions as necessary.
Drafting reports and participating in review meetings to enhance coordination and planning.
Representing UNFPA in technical working groups and identifying opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration.
Building and strengthening local civil society networks to advocate for the rights of young women and girls.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced (Master’s) university degree in Public Health, Demography, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related social science discipline. Additionally, a minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in leading adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights projects is required. Experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as a solid understanding of results-based management, is essential. Knowledge of UNFPA's mandate and experience in addressing gender-based violence and other related technical areas will be considered advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is an advanced (Master’s) university degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Demography, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or other related social sciences. This advanced degree is crucial for understanding the complexities of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and for effectively contributing to the programme's objectives.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of increasingly responsible professional experience in leading projects or programmes focused on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. Candidates should have experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects, as well as a strong understanding of results-based management principles and their application in programme management.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Additionally, a working knowledge of local languages is desirable, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities and partners.
Additional Notes: This position offers an attractive remuneration package, including a competitive net salary, health insurance, and other benefits as applicable. UNFPA promotes a work environment that reflects values of gender equality, diversity, integrity, and a healthy work-life balance.
