Job Overview: The Project Management Specialist will oversee the management of two main projects funded by the Government of Canada: 'Equal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights' in Guyana and 'Build Back Equal' in four Eastern Caribbean countries. This role involves providing strategic and technical support for project coordination, implementation, and reporting. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, UN partners, and donors, to enhance the quality and accessibility of sexual and reproductive health services for women and adolescent girls, particularly survivors of gender-based violence. The position is based in the UNFPA Guyana office and requires a commitment to advocating for rights-based approaches and result-based management in development programming.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Management Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: supporting the development of tools and work plans for effective project monitoring; screening project activities and preparing annual work plans; collaborating with colleagues to achieve results; assessing technical assistance needs; supporting data collection and analysis; producing analytical inputs for defining partners' capacities; managing training activities; ensuring compliance with financial activities and reporting; drafting quarterly monitoring reports; and monitoring financial and administrative systems. The role also includes maintaining constructive relationships with stakeholders and ensuring timely delivery of project targets.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong project management skills, including experience in monitoring and evaluation, financial management, and capacity building. They should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, and a strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues.
Educational Background: A master's degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or related areas are advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the national language of Guyana. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Caribbean region is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The position is a UN Volunteer role with a contract duration that may be extended based on funding and performance. The role is full-time, and international volunteers will receive a monthly living allowance to cover housing and living expenses, as well as health insurance for dependents. Additional benefits include a Well-being Differential monthly allowance for international volunteers and comprehensive insurance coverage.
