Job Overview: The Project Management Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), which focuses on addressing maritime crime challenges faced by member states. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in project management and capacity building within the context of maritime law enforcement. The intern will assist in organizing events aimed at enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement and judicial officers in the Indian Ocean West Region. The position is flexible, allowing for in-person or hybrid work arrangements, and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week. The internship is unpaid, providing an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain valuable experience in an international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the GMCP's objectives. These include assisting with the planning and implementation of projects in the Indian Ocean Region, drafting articles for the program's website and social media platforms, attending meetings and taking detailed notes, and providing support for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) as well as internal and external reporting. The intern may also be required to perform other related tasks as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the program and its initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. The educational background should ideally be in a field related to international relations, law, or maritime studies, which aligns with the objectives of the internship.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to the responsibilities of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate an understanding of maritime law enforcement or international crime prevention.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
