Job Overview: The Associate Field Translator position is a national role based in Bangui, Central African Republic, within the Conference Services and Translation Unit of MINUSCA. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Unit and will be responsible for translating a wide range of texts related to the work of the United Nations. This includes political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, scientific, and technical documents. The role requires a high standard of accuracy and consistency, ensuring that translations are faithful to the original text while adhering to established terminology and style. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Field Translator include:
Translating a variety of texts covering subjects dealt with by the United Nations, ensuring accuracy and appropriate terminology.
Assisting in matters of terminology and style to maintain uniformity and quality across translations.
Resolving translation and editorial issues through consultation with authors.
Aiming for high standards of accuracy, consistency, and fidelity to the original text.
Observing established terminology and ensuring consistency with other translators.
Utilizing all relevant sources of reference and conducting necessary research for translations.
Maintaining a certain speed and volume of output while considering the complexity of the text and deadlines.
Identifying new terminology for consideration by revisers and terminology managers.
Performing other duties as required by the Chief of Unit.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in English literature, English linguistics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered. Candidates must demonstrate professional competence in translation and possess a strong understanding of the subject matter. The role demands a commitment to high standards of professionalism and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
