Job Overview: The Team Leader will oversee the project aimed at strengthening the management of chemical waste in the Eastern and Central African region. This role involves coordinating a team of experts, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders, and managing project activities to achieve the desired outcomes. The project aims to reduce risks associated with improperly managed chemical waste by enhancing governance and cooperation on CBRN risk prevention, detection, and mitigation. The Team Leader will be responsible for establishing working procedures, supervising project activities, and ensuring the quality of outputs while adhering to international standards and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Team Leader will be responsible for the overall delivery of the program and the quality of outputs. Key responsibilities include coordinating the work of Key Experts, supervising technical aspects of the contract, ensuring effective communication between experts and stakeholders, organizing administrative and logistical support, and overseeing training exercises and study visits. The Team Leader will also monitor project expenses, ensure timely delivery of reports, and maintain a harmonized approach among consortium members and experts in relation to beneficiary countries. Additionally, they will be tasked with establishing communication with the EU and relevant beneficiaries, ensuring that project objectives and target results are met efficiently and effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering, management, law, or related fields such as environment, biology, or chemistry. Competence in team management, particularly with multidisciplinary teams, is essential. The ability to monitor and track progress of activities and reports related to the contract is crucial, along with strong communication and negotiation skills. Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French (both written and spoken) is necessary for this role.
Educational Background: A university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field is required. Preferred areas of study include engineering, management, law, environmental science, biology, or chemistry. This educational background is essential to effectively manage the complexities of the project and to understand the technical aspects involved in chemical waste management.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in organizing medium to large-scale, technically complex projects, preferably within the CBRN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security field. Experience in training methodologies and organization is also required, as the role involves training personnel in good management practices for chemical waste.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication. Proficiency in French is also necessary, as it will facilitate communication with stakeholders in the Eastern and Central African region where French is commonly spoken. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position can be either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate's preference. The role requires a willingness to undertake frequent business trips to partner countries where project activities will be conducted. The intended start date for the project is June 2025, with a contract duration of 48 months.
