Job Overview: The Youth Career Readiness Coach plays a crucial role in the IRC’s Connect to Success (C2S) program, which is designed to assist out-of-school refugee youth and young adults aged 16-24 in achieving their career aspirations. This position involves providing one-on-one coaching, case management, and facilitating group workshops and enrichment opportunities. The Youth Career Readiness Coach will work closely with the Connect to Success Coordinator and collaborate with the Youth Programs team to ensure effective service delivery. The role requires a proactive approach to support clients in navigating their career paths, enhancing their skills, and achieving their personal and professional goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Youth Career Readiness Coach include, but are not limited to: collaborating with the C2S Program Coordinator to provide individualized career coaching and case management; guiding students through the Penn Foster virtual high school diploma curriculum; designing and leading workshops on college and career readiness topics; creating opportunities for career advancement such as job shadowing and internships; assisting youth in job placements; building relationships with refugee youth and families using a trauma-informed approach; maintaining partnerships with employers and workforce development organizations; researching best practices in career readiness; attending evaluation meetings; and completing administrative tasks such as reporting and timesheets.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field. Additionally, they should have experience providing individualized support to immigrant youth, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in teaching, tutoring, youth development, or case management. Supervisory experience related to teaching or extended learning programs is preferred, along with experience working with refugee or immigrant populations. Familiarity with teaching English Language Learners and virtual teaching/tutoring is also advantageous.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as education, social work, or counseling is preferred for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for effectively supporting youth in their career readiness and personal development.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of professional experience in roles related to youth development, teaching, or case management. Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations is essential, as is a demonstrated ability to provide individualized support to youth who have recently arrived in the U.S. Supervisory experience is also beneficial, particularly in educational settings.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in the predominant language of the local client population, such as Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, or Kinyarwanda, is considered a plus but is not required.
Additional Notes: The position requires a flexible schedule, including one evening per week and occasional weekend work. The working environment includes standard office settings as well as program delivery in the Clarkston and Stone Mountain areas, which may involve home and school visits.
