Job Posting Organization:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a leading scientific research organization established to probe the fundamental structure of the universe. It employs physicists and engineers who utilize the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. CERN has been at the forefront of particle physics research since its inception, contributing significantly to our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature. The organization values diversity and has integrated it into its mission since its foundation, promoting an inclusive environment for all its employees and students.

Job Overview:
The Technical Student Programme at CERN offers students the unique opportunity to gain practical training in various engineering domains, including general or civil engineering, surveying, and safety. This program is designed for students who are required or encouraged by their universities or institutes to acquire work experience through internships. Participants will work at the cutting edge of technology, engaging in projects related to industrial and tertiary building structures, design and drafting, underground structures, roads, drainage, geotechnical engineering, and safety risk management. This experience not only enhances students' knowledge but also serves as an impressive addition to their CVs. However, it is important to note that students specializing in theoretical or experimental particle physics are not eligible for this program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a participant in the Technical Student Programme, you will be expected to contribute to various engineering projects under the guidance of experienced professionals. Your responsibilities may include conducting research, assisting in the design and drafting of engineering plans, participating in safety assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You will also have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, thereby enhancing your understanding of engineering principles in real-world applications. Additionally, you may be involved in the preparation of technical documentation and reports, as well as presenting your findings to your peers and supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Technical Student Programme, candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. Applicants should have completed at least 18 months or 3 semesters of their undergraduate studies by the time of the next student selection round in May 202
  • It is essential that candidates remain registered as full-time students during the internship period. A good command of English or French is also required to ensure effective communication within the organization.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program related to general or civil engineering, surveying, or safety. The program should be recognized by a university or institute that is affiliated with CERN Member or Associate Member States. Students should have completed a minimum of 18 months of their studies to be eligible for the internship.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should have a solid foundation in their field of study, as evidenced by their academic performance. The program is designed for students who are looking to gain practical experience and apply their theoretical knowledge in a professional setting. Therefore, a strong academic background and a keen interest in engineering projects are essential.

Languages:
A good knowledge of English or French is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary working languages at CERN. Proficiency in either language will facilitate effective communication and collaboration with colleagues and supervisors. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

Additional Notes:
The Technical Student Programme offers a contract of association lasting between 4 to 12 months, providing participants with a monthly allowance of 3452 Swiss Francs (net of tax), along with a travel allowance. Depending on personal circumstances, additional supplements may be available for those who are married or have children. Participants will also benefit from CERN's comprehensive Health Insurance scheme, with contributions automatically deducted from their allowance. Furthermore, students will receive 2.5 days of paid leave per month. Applicants are required to submit a CV in English or French in PDF format, and while supplementary documents such as academic transcripts or reference letters are recommended, they are not mandatory. The application deadline is set for March 3rd, 2025, at 23:59 CET, and candidates may be contacted for interviews or additional information during the evaluation process.
