Job Overview: As a Software Engineer at CERN, you will be an integral part of the Measurement, Test & Analysis team within the Beams department. This position is crucial for supporting various projects, including the ETBS (Electron Test Bench System) and RADE (Rapid Application Development Environment). You will be responsible for developing user and expert testbench applications, distributed control systems, and configuration tools. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver robust software solutions. You will also be expected to ensure the seamless integration of software systems with existing hardware and workflows, perform thorough testing and debugging, and document software to maintain quality and reliability. Staying updated on emerging software technologies and best practices is essential to continuously improve project outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Software Engineer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Designing, developing, and maintaining user and expert testbench applications.
Developing and implementing distributed control systems, user applications, and configuration tools.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver effective software solutions.
Ensuring seamless integration and optimization of software systems with existing hardware and workflows.
Performing thorough testing, debugging, and documentation of software to ensure quality and reliability.
Staying updated on emerging software technologies and best practices to continuously improve project outcomes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a professional background in Software Engineering and IT or a related field. Eligibility criteria include being a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. Additionally, candidates should have either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is also required that candidates have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or PhD in Software Engineering, IT, or a related field. Candidates with a Master's degree should have 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience, while those with a PhD should have no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience.

The job reference for this position is BE-CEM-MTA-2025-2-GRAP. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 6287 to 6911 Swiss Francs (net of tax), coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year and will have access to on-the-job and formal training at CERN, as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
