Job Overview:
The HVAC Project Engineer position at CERN offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates in HVAC engineering to gain valuable experience in a multicultural and dynamic environment. The role involves working under the guidance of the SCE-SAM HVAC expert, where the engineer will be responsible for conducting technical studies and designing optimized HVAC solutions that meet site constraints. The engineer will also prepare design plans, technical specifications, and manage budget and timeline planning. This position requires supervision and coordination of on-site teams to ensure that projects are completed according to schedule and adhere to CERN's high-quality standards. The engineer will act as the primary point of contact between stakeholders, collaborating with subcontractors and suppliers, and will be involved in conducting functional tests for commissioning and providing training to users. Additionally, the engineer will manage project handovers, address any issues that arise, and ensure the final acceptance of projects, as well as implement maintenance documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The HVAC Project Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: conducting technical studies to assess site constraints and develop HVAC solutions; preparing detailed design plans and technical specifications; managing project budgets and timelines; supervising and coordinating on-site teams to ensure compliance with project schedules; collaborating with subcontractors and suppliers to facilitate project execution; conducting functional tests for commissioning and providing necessary training to users; managing project handovers and addressing any issues that may arise; ensuring final acceptance of projects; and implementing maintenance documentation to support ongoing operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. A solid technical knowledge of HVAC systems, including design, installation, and maintenance, is essential. The ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders is crucial. Knowledge of safety standards and quality assurance practices is required, along with competency in technical documentation and project reporting. Proficiency in technical software such as CAD, BIM, and project management tools is necessary. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to learn new HVAC technologies and sustainable practices. Fluency in English is mandatory, and the ability to work in French is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Energy, or a related field. A Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience is required, or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is important that candidates have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before applying for this position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant professional experience, which can vary based on educational background. For those with a Master's degree, 2 to 6 years of post-graduation experience is expected, while candidates with a PhD should have no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience. This experience should be in fields related to HVAC engineering or similar disciplines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language at CERN. While not required, the ability to communicate in French would be advantageous and could enhance collaboration within the multicultural environment of CERN.

  • The role involves interventions in underground installations, and candidates must possess a valid driving license. Compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 6287 to 6911 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year, and CERN offers on-the-job and formal training opportunities, as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
