Job Posting Organization:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a prominent protection agency established to advocate for and promote durable solutions for populations affected by displacement. Since its inception, DRC has been dedicated to providing assistance and protection to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The organization has been operational in Ukraine since 2014, and it currently employs over 400 staff members within the country. In 2023, DRC plans to significantly scale up its operations to implement emergency responses across various sectors, including Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs, and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding. DRC's approach involves direct interventions, support to duty bearers, and partnerships with civil society organizations (CSOs), adapting its durable solutions portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the affected populations.

Job Overview:
The Protection Officer will play a crucial role in coordinating and leading the implementation of quality protection monitoring activities. Reporting to the Protection Team Leader, the officer will be responsible for delivering information sessions, identifying individuals at risk, and facilitating community-based protection activities. The position requires close collaboration with communities, CSOs, and government services to identify vulnerable individuals in need of support. The officer will conduct service mapping to share information about available services and will be based in the DRC office in Chernihiv, with field activities extending into the Chernihiv oblasts. This role is essential for ensuring that protection concerns are addressed effectively and that vulnerable populations receive the necessary support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the planning and implementation of protection monitoring activities; supporting the Protection Team Leader in producing and updating monthly work plans; developing protection monitoring tools; conducting service mapping to identify available community services; building and maintaining relationships with governmental and non-governmental service providers; identifying protection risks and monitoring needs; collecting quantitative and qualitative data using various monitoring tools; organizing outreach activities and information sessions; holding regular meetings with community-based groups; assisting in the development of community action plans; building the capacity of local actors on protection topics; mobilizing communities through engagement; supervising Protection Assistants; coordinating with other DRC departments for referrals; contributing to funding proposals; and providing regular reports to the Protection Team Leader and/or Protection Manager.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they lack a background in working with vulnerable groups or social work, as on-the-job training will be provided. The ideal candidate should be comfortable discussing sensitive topics and working with distressed individuals. Familiarity with social work is preferred but not mandatory. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in supervising staff is desirable, along with strong organizational and time management skills. A strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics is crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software is required, along with good English language skills and mandatory Ukrainian language skills.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include the completion of secondary school or a relevant level of experience. While university study is preferred, it is not strictly required, allowing for a range of candidates to apply based on their practical experience and skills.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a certain level of experience, particularly in working with vulnerable populations or in social work settings. However, candidates without direct experience but with a strong interest in the field are also encouraged to apply, as training will be provided. Experience in supervising staff is considered an asset, and candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Languages:
Ukrainian language skills are required for this position, while good English language skills are preferred. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will be essential for interacting with diverse stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is set for a duration of one year, with the designation of the duty station being Chernihiv. The start date is as soon as possible.
