Job Overview: The Global Practice Lead in Foundational Learning (FL) serves as the organizational leader for Foundational Learning within the Crisis Response, Recovery and Development (CRRD) department. This role is pivotal in devising and leading strategies to enhance the quality, impact, and scale of IRC's Foundational Learning programming. The Global Practice Lead is responsible for ensuring the relevance and quality of global technical standards, generating and promoting evidence in the technical area, and collaborating closely with Regional Technical Advisors, Specialists, and Technical Coordinators to promote best practices in CRRD programming. The position involves strategic planning for the Foundational Learning practice area, integrating various strands of education work and outcomes, and managing specialists in Social Emotional Learning, literacy, numeracy, and EdTech. The Global Practice Lead will also engage in department-wide initiatives and provide strategic guidance aligned with departmental objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Global Practice Lead will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including acting as the organizational leader for CRRD in Foundational Learning, leading strategic direction and delivery planning, identifying programmatic risks, and collaborating with other Global Practice Leads to promote integrated program designs. They will oversee global business development for Foundational Learning, support fundraising efforts, and provide technical oversight of IRC's global technical standards and methodologies. Additionally, the Global Practice Lead will establish knowledge management systems, competency frameworks, and support Technical Advisors with technical challenges. They will also coordinate research efforts, guide evidence use, and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders in the Foundational Learning area, representing IRC in external forums as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in education, with at least 7 years specifically in Foundational Learning. They should have demonstrated experience in leading programs in fragile or humanitarian settings and a strong understanding of donor priorities and requirements. The ideal candidate will have excellent management and leadership skills, the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, and a proven track record of driving evidence-based practices. Strong business acumen, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with superb interpersonal and communication abilities.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in education or related fields is required, along with equivalent professional experience. Candidates should have sound training in the use of data and research evidence for programmatic decisions, as well as rigorous analytic skills, which are advantageous for the role.
Experience: The position requires extensive experience, specifically a minimum of 12 years in the education sector, with a focus on Foundational Learning. Candidates should have a proven track record of designing, leading, and implementing educational programs, particularly in challenging environments. Experience with major donors and a good understanding of their priorities is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic, French, and/or Spanish is strongly preferred. This multilingual capability will enhance communication and collaboration across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and may involve global travel up to 25% of the time, occasionally on short notice.
