Job Overview:
The Country Director for CHAI Zimbabwe will play a pivotal role in addressing the evolving health sector needs in Zimbabwe, aligning with the priorities of the Ministry of Health. This position involves overseeing the country office's daily operations, managing administrative and technical staff, and ensuring the effective implementation of health programs. The Country Director will be responsible for strategic alignment of programs with CHAI's overall strategy, financial planning, fundraising, and monitoring and evaluation. The role requires strong leadership and relationship management skills to engage with various stakeholders, including government officials, partners, and donors, while ensuring compliance with CHAI policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Define the overall strategy for the Country Team and develop operational plans for execution.
  • Maintain an understanding of health system priorities and gaps at national and provincial levels.
  • Provide leadership and support to senior management and Program Managers in executing programmatic initiatives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans for CHAI-supported interventions.
  • Facilitate communication and information sharing within CHAI and with external partners.
  • Provide technical assistance to the government as needed.
  • Develop communication materials and represent CHAI at public forums.
  • Lead fundraising efforts and manage relationships with donors.
  • Establish and maintain high-performing teams to support programs. 1
  • Oversee financial management, including budget development and reporting. 1
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and CHAI's policies. 1
  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in a relevant sector, or 8 years with an advanced degree.
  • Demonstrated people management skills and experience managing cross-cultural teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead teams to high performance.
  • Experience in conceiving, planning, and executing successful programs or projects.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with political leaders and health sector stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate complex government processes and achieve consensus.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in addressing complex problems.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree in Business or Public Health. A PhD is also considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health systems, although this is not mandatory.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of work experience in a senior management role within a private or public sector enterprise. Alternatively, candidates with a Master’s or PhD degree must have at least 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in the health sector is highly desirable, particularly in a senior management capacity.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Zimbabwe is considered an advantage, although not mandatory.
