The position is located within the French Language Unit of UN News Services Section I, which is part of the News & Content Branch of the News & Media Division of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UN News Services Section is responsible for producing daily news and feature stories, magazine programs, and special series, providing content in nine languages. Job Overview:
The Public Information Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the production and delivery of multimedia news content related to the United Nations. This position involves providing specialized assistance to producers during both the preproduction and post-production stages of multimedia news production. The incumbent will be responsible for researching a wide range of information sources, compiling printed and electronic materials, and participating in editorial meetings to suggest story ideas. The role also includes arranging interviews, assisting with digital content production, editing, and podcast production, as well as fact-checking and updating web content. The assistant will engage in video project production, conduct interviews, and assist with promotional activities and outreach. This position requires a proactive approach to managing audio and video materials and providing guidance to interns and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide specialized assistance to producers during multimedia news production.
  • Research and compile information from various sources, including printed materials, audio, and video excerpts.
  • Participate in editorial meetings and contribute story ideas.
  • Arrange interviews for producers and assist with digital content production.
  • Edit audio and video materials, including podcasts.
  • Fact-check and update web content, drafting and editing as necessary.
  • Assist in the production and editing of video projects, including conducting interviews and managing visual materials.
  • Engage in promotional activities and outreach to partners.
  • Analyze social media metrics and website analytics. 1
  • Manage audio/video archives and ensure preservation of historical materials. 1
  • Provide guidance and training to interns and volunteers. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, international broadcasting, or a related area. For those with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to five years. Experience in audio and video production for broadcasters, as well as digital content publishing, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in multimedia feature production and the incorporation of graphics and photos. Familiarity with Adobe Premiere software for editing is desirable, along with experience in recording and filming audio and video material.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. While specific job-related qualifications are not detailed, a first-level university degree or higher is advantageous and can reduce the required years of experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in public communication or international broadcasting. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may qualify with five years of experience. This position is temporarily available for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension. It is important to note that this temporary assignment does not guarantee future employment in the same position.
