Job Overview: CIMMYT has opened a call for applications for Breeders committed to implementing CIMMYT's Strategy related positions, specifically for roles such as Wheat Scientist/Breeder and Early Career Wheat Breeder Seed Breeder. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing CIMMYT’s breeding pipeline, ensuring the efficient development, advancement, and dissemination of germplasm and products. This role involves fostering collaborations across various areas of germplasm development, molecular breeding, rust phenotyping, and seed systems to co-implement impactful regional improvement networks. The candidate will also contribute to experimental design, trial, and nursery data interpretation and analyses, aiming to increase genetic gains in CIMMYT's breeding pipelines. The position requires active engagement in capacity-building efforts and managing regional data through the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) for streamlined data management. The role also includes leading a team of research technicians and enhancing the visibility of CIMMYT's research through high-quality publications.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include executing CIMMYT’s breeding pipeline, ensuring the efficient development and dissemination of germplasm and products. The candidate will foster collaborations across areas of germplasm development, molecular breeding, rust phenotyping, and seed systems. They will contribute to experimental design, trial, and nursery data interpretation and analyses, and work towards increasing genetic gains in CIMMYT's breeding pipelines. The role involves managing the program’s regional data and implementing the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) for streamlined data management. The candidate will facilitate seeds product advancement meetings with internal and external stakeholders, collaborate with regional improvement teams to optimize trial locations, and lead a team of research technicians. Additionally, they will assist technical stations staff in implementing best practices and enhance the visibility of CIMMYT's research through publications.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a PhD in breeding or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in seed breeding. Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and expertise in biometrics and statistics, quantitative genetics, and applied molecular breeding. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, along with a desire and ability to work respectfully and inclusively in a diverse, multicultural, multidisciplinary work environment. The selected candidate must exhibit competencies in problem-solving, decision-making, achievement orientation, communication, and teamwork.
