Job Posting Organization:
UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) is the lead UN agency focused on delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and has a mission to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. The organization is committed to achieving three transformative results by 2030: ending preventable maternal deaths, ending unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA's strategic plan for 2022-2025 emphasizes the importance of addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women's and girls' access to health services and rights, and it calls for collaborative efforts to build forward better in the face of global challenges.

Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant involves developing and facilitating workshops aimed at strengthening the capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in engaging men to promote gender equality and address gender-based violence (GBV). The consultant will work closely with a national expert and will be responsible for conducting two workshops in Kazakhstan, specifically in Astana and Almaty. The workshops will target representatives from various sectors, including NGOs, activists, journalists, and educators, focusing on enhancing their skills and knowledge in involving men in the prevention of GBV. The consultant will also support a team leader in coordinating a regional workshop that addresses discriminatory gender social norms across Central Asia. This role requires a deep understanding of gender issues, the ability to develop training materials, and the capacity to facilitate discussions that lead to actionable strategies for change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and facilitate two three-day workshops for CSOs on engaging men in promoting gender equality and changing social norms related to GBV.
  • Review existing documents related to engaging men and develop a Concept Note and Agenda for the workshops.
  • Prepare presentations and handouts that are contextually relevant for participants.
  • Facilitate the workshops in Astana and Almaty, ensuring active participation and engagement from attendees.
  • Prepare a detailed report on workshop outcomes, incorporating feedback from participants.
  • Support the team leader in coordinating a three-day regional workshop on addressing discriminatory gender social norms, including reviewing relevant literature and data to inform discussions.
  • Develop workshop materials in both English and Russian, ensuring they are adaptable for local contexts.
  • Facilitate sessions that focus on positive masculinities and the role of men in preventing GBV, while fostering collaboration among participants.

Required Qualifications:
  • Higher education in humanities or related fields; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience (at least 10 years) in gender equality, GBV, and addressing discriminatory gender norms.
  • Proven track record in developing training materials on GBV issues and positive masculinity.
  • Experience in creating situation analyses and policy documents related to men's involvement in gender equality initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the SGBV agenda and gender equality issues, particularly in Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
  • Previous experience working with UN agencies or international organizations on gender-related assignments is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess higher education in a relevant field, such as social sciences, gender studies, or public health. A master's degree in these areas will be considered an advantage, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities surrounding gender issues and social norms.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the fields of gender equality, gender-based violence, and the engagement of men in promoting gender equality. Candidates should have a strong background in developing training materials and facilitating workshops, as well as experience in conducting situation analyses and developing strategic documents related to gender issues.

Languages:
Fluency in Russian is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with workshop participants. Proficiency in English is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate the development of materials and communication with international stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a consultancy role, and the duration of the contract will be specified upon selection. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the workshop periods and may need to travel between Astana and Almaty. UNFPA promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and persons with disabilities. Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the recruitment process.
