Job Posting Organization:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a leading scientific research organization established to probe the fundamental structure of the universe. It employs physicists and engineers who utilize the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. CERN has been at the forefront of particle physics research since its inception, employing thousands of staff and collaborating with numerous countries worldwide to advance our understanding of the universe.

Job Overview:
The Magnet Test and Measurement Engineer position at CERN is an exciting opportunity for engineers interested in the field of magnets and particle accelerators. The role is situated within the Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group of CERN’s Technology Department (TE), which is responsible for designing, building, and supporting the operation of all beam line magnets in the CERN accelerator complex. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and qualification of instrumentation for the Future Circular Collider, a significant project aimed at advancing particle physics. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in electronics and a collaborative spirit to work within a diverse team, ensuring the reliable operation of magnets and contributing to future upgrades.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Magnet Test and Measurement Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include developing, testing, and qualifying instrumentation for the Future Circular Collider. You will define testing strategies tailored to the project's scale and operational efficiency, and organize data acquisition campaigns on relevant magnets. Additionally, you will be responsible for applying lessons learned to enhance instrumentation development. This role will also involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful implementation of testing strategies and the dynamic characterization of magnets.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or PhD in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Proven experience in developing and testing digital electronic data acquisition systems is essential, along with experience in measuring and characterizing magnets and magnetic materials. Familiarity with particle accelerators, computational methods for electromagnetism, and embedded systems will be considered advantageous.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or PhD in electronics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field is required for this position. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their technical competencies in the field of magnet testing and measurement.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a large, multidisciplinary team. They should have a proven track record in the development, testing, and application of digital electronic data acquisition systems, as well as experience in the measurement and dynamic characterization of magnets. Experience in operating particle accelerators and knowledge of computational methods in electromagnetism will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory. Candidates should be able to understand and communicate in the other language in professional contexts or be willing to learn it rapidly.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position under certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week. The role may involve working in radiation areas and underground installations, and candidates must be prepared for stand-by duty as required. Medical clearance is necessary before a contract offer can be confirmed. The job grade for this position is 6-7, and it is referenced under TE-MSC-MMM-2025-20-LD.
