Job Overview:
The Motor Vehicle Technician position is crucial for the Transport Section at the Aweil UN Field Office, which is responsible for managing and maintaining various UN assets, including vehicles and equipment. The technician will be directly supervised by the Motor Transport Officer and will play a key role in ensuring the operational readiness of UN vehicles and equipment. This position requires expertise in auto electrical and electronic systems, as well as the ability to conduct repairs and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications. The technician will also be responsible for documenting maintenance activities, teaching national colleagues, and ensuring safety standards in the workshop.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Motor Vehicle Technician will undertake a variety of tasks, including: conducting repair and maintenance services on UN-owned equipment, performing routine and emergency electrical and hydraulic repairs, checking and installing Carlog systems, ensuring the workshop is equipped with safety tools, documenting vehicle maintenance and repairs, processing vehicle write-off cases, conducting vehicle inspections, and performing welding and panel beating tasks as needed. The technician will also assist in maintaining warehouse records, preparing financial summaries, and submitting reports to the workshop supervisor. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in automotive technology, with specific expertise in auto electrical and electronic systems. They should demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and adaptability in their work. The ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly is essential. Candidates should also have a commitment to safety and the ability to teach and mentor national colleagues to enhance their skills.

Educational Background:
A relevant technical diploma or certification in automotive technology or a related field is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair processes, as well as familiarity with UN procedures and standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, particularly with light, medium, and heavy vehicles. Experience working in a UN or international organization is an advantage, as is familiarity with the specific challenges of operating in conflict-affected areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of Arabic or other local languages is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local staff and communities.

This position is classified as a non-family duty station, and candidates should be prepared for austere living conditions, including shared accommodations and limited access to amenities. The contract duration is aligned with the UNMISS mandate, and the position is full-time.
