Job Overview: The Empathy Movement Leader role at Ashoka focuses on ensuring that every young person develops the foundational skill of changemaking, specifically conscious empathy, by the time they leave middle school. This position is integral to Ashoka's mission in Europe, working alongside the Youth Years Leader and Framework Change Leader to promote essential changemaking skills. The leader will be responsible for nurturing an empathy-driven changemaking mindset in early childhood education and forming strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including ministries of education, public school systems, and teacher unions. Success in this role will be measured by the establishment of influential partnerships and the advancement of place-based models that demonstrate societal paradigm shifts in parenting and education practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to nurture empathy-driven changemaking mindsets in early childhood education.
Form strategic partnerships with influential organizations, including ministries of education, public school systems, nurseries, and teacher unions.
Collaborate with the Youth Years Leader and Framework Change Leader to align efforts in promoting changemaking skills across different age groups.
Track and report on progress towards established metrics that indicate societal change, such as the percentage of parents nurturing changemakers and the definition of success in early education.
Engage with Ashoka's global network to share best practices and insights on fostering changemaking skills.
Lead initiatives that promote the importance of conscious empathy and changemaking in educational curricula.
Advocate for policy changes that support the integration of changemaking skills in educational systems.
Organize workshops, seminars, and events to raise awareness and build capacity among educators and parents.
Required Qualifications:
Proven track record in shaping parenting practices and early education systems.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and mobilize diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with partners and communities.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
A deep understanding of the educational landscape and the challenges faced in promoting changemaking skills.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred, particularly in areas related to social entrepreneurship, education policy, or child development.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 15 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in guiding systemic change at a national level is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to foster partnerships and drive initiatives that promote changemaking skills.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional European languages is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with diverse stakeholders across the continent.
Additional Notes: This is a senior leadership position with an estimated annual gross salary of £95,000-£115,000, plus a comprehensive compensation package that includes a 10% annual discretionary performance bonus, equity bonus, 25 annual leave days, flexible working arrangements, and various employee wellbeing programs. The role is full-time and involves international collaboration, requiring candidates to be open to travel as necessary.
