Job Overview: The Manager, Regional Philanthropy for the Western Region is a pivotal role within WWF, focusing on building and nurturing relationships with high-net-worth individuals to secure major gifts of $25,000 and above. This position requires a strategic mindset to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies that expand WWF’s network of philanthropists. The Senior Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for managing a personal portfolio of 50-75 individuals, including current donors and potential prospects, with the goal of raising an average of $1 million or more annually. The role is based in San Francisco and requires in-office presence 2-3 days a week, along with travel to meet donors as necessary. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with various teams within WWF to ensure the effective use of resources and to enhance cultivation and stewardship plans for major donors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and secure six-figure and seven-figure gifts, aiming to raise an average of $1 million or more per year.
Manage a personal portfolio of 50-75 individuals, including donors, prospects, and suspects across a ten-state region, with required travel.
Collaborate with Regional Philanthropy, Strategic Philanthropy, Annual Giving, Gift Planning, and Board Relations to ensure effective resource utilization.
Work closely with Gift Planning officers to identify and secure complex gifts.
Create coordinated strategies with Strategic Philanthropy gift officers to leverage networks of Board members and principal gift donors.
Contribute to a goal of doubling the number of major and principal gift prospects in the next 3-5 years.
Cultivate and steward community foundations and emerging platforms for high-end philanthropy in the region.
Support the Events Team in executing a strategic event plan for the region and assist with regional events as needed.
Preferably have experience or knowledge of the Bay Area/Silicon Valley tech community and/or Los Angeles.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree is required.
A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, particularly in closing complex gifts and building relationships.
Experience in project management and the ability to conceptualize and implement donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A strong knowledge of and passion for environmental issues.
Familiarity with or experience working in the West Coast, especially the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles.
Professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and enthusiasm are essential traits for this role.
