Job Overview:
CIMMYT is seeking a proactive, organized, problem-solver, and customer service-oriented professional for the position of Buyer: Logistics and Insurance. This role is situated within the Buyers Unit of CIMMYT and involves sourcing qualified providers for various goods and services, both locally and internationally. The position requires a strong focus on logistics and risk management, ensuring that the procurement process is efficient and effective. The Buyer will be responsible for negotiating terms with suppliers, managing purchase orders, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies. The role also involves collaboration with internal clients and external partners to facilitate the procurement process and support the organization's operational requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Buyer: Logistics and Insurance will conduct sourcing of qualified providers for assigned goods and services, which include furniture and office equipment, risk management requirements (insurance, uniforms, PPE), and local and international logistics. Key responsibilities include identifying and developing new providers, executing bidding and tender processes, establishing effective communication with internal clients and suppliers, negotiating procurement terms, requesting necessary documentation for purchase agreements, creating purchase orders in the Institutional ERP system, supporting monthly and annual closing of POs, following up on delivery of goods and services, coordinating with IMPEX specialists for imported items, and supporting periodic vendor evaluations and due diligence processes. Other related activities may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
The selected candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Finance, or Logistics. Additionally, the candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in similar roles or positions. Proficiency in MS Office at an advanced level is required, along with an advanced level of English (both written and conversational). Candidates will be tested on their English proficiency and should score a minimum of C1 on the CEFR scale. The candidate must also demonstrate competencies in organization, critical thinking, teamwork, client orientation, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Knowledge of insurance matters will be considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Finance, or Logistics is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding procurement processes, logistics management, and financial considerations in purchasing.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in roles related to procurement, logistics, or supply chain management. This experience should include responsibilities that align with the duties of the Buyer position, demonstrating the ability to manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee the procurement process effectively.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with an advanced level required (C1 on CEFR). Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required for the role.

CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package that includes support for continuous professional development.
