Job Overview:
The Aquaculture Impact Investing Specialist will play a pivotal role in WWF's Impact Investing initiative, which aims to bring investment capital to innovative solutions addressing environmental challenges. This position is particularly focused on the aquaculture sector, where the specialist will contribute to the growth and success of WWF's aquaculture portfolio. The role involves executing impact investing strategies, conducting financial modeling, and performing critical analyses to identify investment opportunities. The specialist will also manage existing aquaculture startups and support the Vice President of Impact Investing in daily operations, ensuring that the initiative aligns with WWF's conservation goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Pipeline Development: Support the development of a prospective investment pipeline by understanding the dynamics of the seaweed and shellfish sectors, identifying potential investments through networking and sector events, and maintaining a prioritized database of prospective investments.
  • Due Diligence: Assist in creating investment recommendations for WWF Impact senior management and the Investment Advisory Panel, coordinate due diligence schedules, analyze financial models, and verify company claims.
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor and evaluate portfolio company performance, maintain a database of reports, and lead the drafting of WWF Impact’s annual portfolio review for aquaculture companies.
  • Next-stage Strategy Development: Prepare for the launch of a dedicated aquaculture investment vehicle, conduct landscape scans for potential partners, and develop investment theses that align with WWF’s conservation goals.
  • Budget Management and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for portfolio management and assist in maintaining budget guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s and/or Graduate degree in finance, accounting, or economics, or a degree in marine sciences with a focus on aquaculture or ocean sustainability. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in early-stage investing, venture capital, private equity, or related fields within the Blue Economy is required. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for sustainability issues in the aquaculture sector and possess strong financial modeling skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s and/or Graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or marine sciences with a focus on aquaculture, ocean sustainability, or the Blue Economy. This educational background is essential to understand the financial and environmental aspects of aquaculture investments.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in early-stage investing, startups, venture capital, private equity, or financial markets, particularly within the Blue Economy. This experience should include a deep understanding of the seaweed and shellfish aquaculture sectors, including market dynamics and policy issues.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.
