Job Posting Organization: The Asia Pacific Regional Office (APAC RO) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is responsible for maintaining continuous liaison with the States to which it is accredited and with appropriate international organizations, regional civil aviation bodies, sub-regional bodies, and UN Agencies and programmes. Established to ensure interregional coordination and promote the timely and harmonized implementation of ICAO policies, decisions, Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), and air navigation plans, the APAC RO also provides technical guidance and assists States/Territories in their implementation activities. The Regional Sub Office (RSO) at Beijing complements the APAC RO and focuses on capacity building of Air Traffic Management (ATM) capabilities in the region, monitoring implementation, conducting gap analysis, and updating the implementation status of APAC States.
Job Overview: The intern will work under the supervision of the Regional Officer, Air Traffic Management (ATFM/CDM) at the APAC RSO. The role involves assisting in the preparation of meetings for APANPIRG contributing bodies related to ATM, including workshops, seminars, and training activities. The intern will support the review of working papers and presentations submitted by States and international organizations, help enhance safety oversight capabilities in ATM, and assist in identifying and monitoring deficiencies in the ATM field. Additionally, the intern will develop methodologies for data collection and analytical tools for reporting on regional data relevant to safety analysis and implementation status. The position requires collaboration with other Regional Officers on multidisciplinary projects and meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing meetings of APANPIRG contributing bodies related to ATM, including workshops, seminars, and training activities.
Support in reviewing working papers, information papers, and presentations submitted by States and international organizations for APANPIRG meetings.
Assist in preparing meeting records and reports.
Help States enhance their safety oversight capabilities in ATM, addressing deficiencies and improving Effective Implementation (EI) scores.
Identify, monitor, and follow up on deficiencies in the ATM field.
Develop methodologies to collate and integrate various data sources for performance data collection.
Create data analytical tools for reporting on regional safety analysis and implementation status.
Collaborate with other Regional Officers on multidisciplinary projects and meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second-level university degree or higher) in a field related to aviation, airport management, aeronautical/aerospace, computer science, data science, or engineering. Applicants from countries without a division between undergraduate and graduate stages should have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a degree.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme related to aviation or a relevant field. For those in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, at least four years of full-time studies towards a degree is required.
Experience: Some experience in airport regulatory authority, airport management, or engineering is desirable for this internship position.
Languages: Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English are essential. A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
Additional Notes: Interns are not paid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The internship duration is six months, with the possibility of renewal, and interns are expected to work five days a week on a full-time basis. The minimum duration for this internship is four months. Interns are not eligible for any other form of employment within ICAO during the internship and cannot apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship.
