Job Overview: As the Country Director for Plan International in Sudan, you will hold a pivotal leadership role responsible for unlocking the potential of the organization within the country. This influential position entails full accountability for the operations and results of Plan International in Sudan. You will have the unique opportunity to drive impactful programs and advocacy work, set the strategic direction for the country office, lead and develop the team, and ensure accountability to both communities and donors. Your role will involve managing risks, fostering income growth, overseeing project fund disbursement, and ensuring alignment with the global strategy. You will be expected to lead transformative change, inspire Plan employees and volunteers, and engage effectively with partners, government entities, local communities, and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the country office operations, ensuring effective implementation of programs and adherence to organizational policies and standards.
Develop and execute strategic plans that align with Plan International's global objectives and address the specific needs of children and communities in Sudan.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development among staff.
Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and community leaders, to advocate for children's rights and secure support for programs.
Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, ensuring that targets are met and that programs are responsive to the needs of children and communities.
Manage financial resources responsibly, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of funds.
Lead risk management efforts, identifying potential challenges and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Represent Plan International in external forums and networks, enhancing the organization's visibility and influence in the sector.
Required Qualifications:
Proven leadership experience in an international development or humanitarian context, with a focus on social justice and children's rights.
Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children and communities in difficult environments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, donors, and community organizations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of making strategic decisions under pressure.
Commitment to Plan International's values and mission, particularly in relation to gender equality and children's rights.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in international development, social sciences, public administration, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in leadership, management, or child rights advocacy are highly desirable.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in international development or humanitarian work, with at least 5 years in a senior management role. Experience working in challenging environments and with a focus on children's rights and gender equality is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, and knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a three-year fixed-term contract and is classified as a mandatory unaccompanied position. The role is based in Port Sudan, and relocation support is available if required. The closing date for applications is Sunday, 2nd March.
