Job Overview:
The Bilingual Writer and Editor Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and impact of IDB Lab's initiatives through effective communication. This position requires a creative and detail-oriented individual who is proficient in both English and Spanish. The consultant will be responsible for developing and revising content that highlights IDB Lab's projects aimed at promoting social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and small business productivity. The role involves collaboration with the communications team within the Strategy, Knowledge, and Impact Division (SKI), which focuses on strategy implementation, knowledge sharing, impact measurement, and communication of IDB Lab's value proposition to various stakeholders. The consultant will also manage a digital content calendar to ensure timely and effective communication across multiple platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's primary responsibilities will include:
  • Content Creation and Editing: Develop and manage IDB Lab's corporate blog, creating engaging posts that align with business priorities and reporting on their performance.
  • Newsletter Management: Curate and develop content for IDB Lab's corporate newsletter, ensuring it effectively communicates key messages and reporting on its performance.
  • Communication Materials: Write, adapt, and edit a variety of communication materials, including press releases, spokesperson quotes, talking points, social media posts, web content, and email communications.
  • Workflow Management: Coordinate with the community manager to maintain a digital content calendar that encompasses social media, website, blog, newsletter, and email communications.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports detailing the activities developed, materials created, and edited, with specific timelines for submission throughout the contract period.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in communications, journalism, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in creating and editing written content is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong writing and editing skills in both English and Spanish, with a proven ability to produce high-quality content that resonates with diverse audiences. Key skills include continuous learning, collaboration, client focus, effective communication, and a willingness to innovate.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field. An advanced degree is considered an asset, as it may provide additional expertise and knowledge relevant to the role.

Experience:
The consultant must have at least 10 years of progressive experience in creating and editing written content. This experience should demonstrate a strong track record of producing high-quality materials for various communication channels, showcasing the ability to adapt content for different audiences and purposes.

Languages:
Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as French and Portuguese is considered a plus, as it may enhance communication with a broader audience and facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a Products and External Services Consultant (PEC) role with a lump sum contract type, lasting for 10 months. The work location is remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. Candidates must be citizens of one of the IDB's 48 member countries and should not have any family members working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
