Job Overview: The UN News Stringer (Urdu) position is designed to enhance the UN's storytelling capabilities by producing multimedia content in Urdu. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a maximum of ten approved multimedia packages that reflect local voices and field-based narratives related to UN activities. This role is pivotal in showcasing the UN's efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting human rights, and addressing climate issues. The position requires collaboration with the relevant Unit Chief to ensure that the produced content aligns with UN priorities and resonates with the target audience. The stringer will also engage in research, writing, editing, and multimedia production, ensuring that all content adheres to UN News guidelines and maintains editorial integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the UN News Stringer (Urdu) include:
Liaising with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan the production of quality multimedia content on various issues.
Pitching story ideas and agreeing on timelines and content to be produced, incorporating diverse storytelling approaches suitable for news and social media platforms.
Researching content from verifiable sources and writing stories and scripts that reflect local angles while aligning with global UN priorities.
Coordinating technical arrangements and organizing interviews in the countries of assignment as required.
Following UN News guidelines to ensure editorial clarity and sound political judgment, including due diligence regarding permissions and copyright.
Producing multimedia stories (audio/video/photo/text) that feature local perspectives and target beneficiaries.
Demonstrating well-rounded experience in broadcast/digital journalism and multimedia production, with a strong emphasis on video production skills.
Providing references and work samples upon request, and ensuring compliance with national/local journalist registration or accreditation requirements.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the UN News Stringer (Urdu) position include:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s) is essential.
Experience in the full range of multimedia production, including video production, filming, and editing, is required.
Experience in recording and editing audio material is desirable.
Familiarity with digital content publishing and the incorporation of photos and graphics is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates for the UN News Stringer (Urdu) position should possess a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum requirement.
