Job Overview:
The Senior Development Director position is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, specifically focused on leading the Go Red for Women campaign in New York City. This office-based position reports directly to the AVP of Development and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the campaign's efforts. The role requires a dynamic leader who can coach and supervise staff while collaborating with corporate and community leaders to enhance fundraising efficiency. The Senior Development Director will work closely with both internal and external partners to ensure cohesive health and revenue strategies for the campaign, embodying a player/coach approach to leadership. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Development Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Ensuring that the team meets or exceeds annual revenue goals for the New York City market.
  • Guiding and directing assigned staff to achieve these goals, including hiring, training, evaluating, and, if necessary, terminating staff.
  • Engaging and mobilizing CEOs, corporate leaders, and community leaders to take on volunteer leadership roles within the Go Red for Women campaign, driving both fundraising and health outcomes.
  • Building new corporate and individual relationships while expanding existing ones to meet campaign revenue goals through effective prospecting and stewardship.
  • Leading coordinated planning processes for revenue and health efforts across all functional areas, ensuring integration with internal partners.
  • Developing and monitoring the campaign budget in accordance with fiscal standards and policies.
  • Preparing necessary documentation and communications for key meetings and updates.
  • Supervising event logistics, including promotions, entertainment, and auctions.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement market strategies and build sponsorships.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience in corporate sales or fundraising, demonstrating a strong track record in these areas. A bachelor's degree is required, or equivalent experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills, with the ability to coach and mentor staff effectively. They should have a proven ability to identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with senior-level volunteers and customers, along with validated experience in exceeding sales and fundraising goals. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and social skills are essential, as is the willingness to work outside of normal hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed. The role also requires the ability to travel locally up to 75%, necessitating reliable transportation.
