Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed to provide research support to UNDP's programming in local governance, local development, innovation, digital transformation, and capacity building. The role is crucial for enhancing the organization's knowledge base and contributing to evidence-based project development. The volunteer will engage in comprehensive desk research, synthesizing findings into actionable insights that will directly support UNDP's efforts in promoting sustainable development and effective governance at the local level. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while contributing to meaningful projects that impact communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for conducting comprehensive desk research on various topics related to local governance, local development, innovation, digital transformation, and capacity building. Key responsibilities include synthesizing research findings into clear and actionable insights, preparing analytical briefs and summaries of research outcomes, supporting the development of project and programme proposals through evidence-based research, generating innovative ideas and recommendations based on research findings, and participating in virtual team meetings to provide regular progress updates via email. The volunteer will also be expected to submit assignments and deliverables electronically and will receive a certificate of completion upon successful assignment fulfillment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise formats. Familiarity with local governance and development issues, as well as experience in conducting desk research, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable working independently and managing their time effectively in a remote work environment.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, public administration, international development, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of research methodologies and be able to apply them effectively in a practical context. Relevant coursework or training in governance, development studies, or related areas will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in local governance and development issues, as well as a willingness to learn and contribute to UNDP's mission. Experience in volunteer work or internships related to research or development projects will be considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all research and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context in Kazakhstan, would be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a fully remote position with flexible working hours, allowing volunteers to manage their schedules effectively. Regular communication will occur via email and Microsoft Teams meetings, and volunteers will work independently under virtual supervision. Assignments and deliverables must be submitted electronically, and upon successful completion of the assignment, volunteers will receive a certificate of completion.
