Job Overview:
The Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant plays a crucial role in the day-to-day implementation of food security and livelihoods projects. This position requires adherence to NRC policies and guidelines while assisting in the implementation of the Livelihoods and Food Security (LFS) portfolio according to established strategies, proposals, budgets, and action plans. The assistant will be responsible for preparing periodic progress reports, ensuring that projects target the most vulnerable participants, and exploring innovative ways to assist them. The role also involves promoting the rights of refugees and identifying protection needs, ensuring that all activities align with NRC's advocacy strategy. The assistant will engage in various activities, including cash assistance provision, income generation activities, and vocational training, while maintaining proper documentation and filing of project-related materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant include:
  • Ensuring adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Assisting with the implementation of the LFS portfolio according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and action plans.
  • Preparing and developing periodic progress and status reports as required by the LFS Team Leader.
  • Ensuring that projects target the most vulnerable participants and exploring new ways to assist them.
  • Promoting and sharing ideas for technical improvements, especially regarding targeting and inclusion.
  • Identifying and reporting protection needs and gaps, proposing safer ways to assist.
  • Conducting activities designed for the implementation of Livelihoods and Food Security projects, including cash assistance and vocational training.
  • Conducting field visits in coordination with local authorities and partners.
  • Carrying out vulnerability assessments using NRC tools and regulations. 1
  • Ensuring timely procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment. 1
  • Collecting outcome-level data through surveys and field visits. 1
  • Keeping records of project reports and documentation. 1
  • Entering beneficiary data into the NRC database. 1
  • Engaging in other required activities for project implementation.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant position include:
  • A university bachelor's degree in development studies, social sciences, entrepreneurship, economy, marketing, business administration, industrial management/engineering, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience working as a project assistant in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts is an asset.
  • Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Updated knowledge of the refugee context in Iran and Afghanistan is an asset.
  • Working experience in business planning, business model design, startup development, and vocational training, preferably in the humanitarian sector.
  • Experience in projects related to community empowerment and self-reliance of vulnerable households is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as development studies, social sciences, entrepreneurship, economy, marketing, business administration, industrial management, or engineering. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of the humanitarian context and effectively contributing to the implementation of food security and livelihoods projects.

Experience:
The position requires experience working as a project assistant in humanitarian or recovery contexts. Candidates with previous experience in complex and volatile environments will be favored. Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position are also necessary to demonstrate capability and effectiveness in similar roles.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Farsi or Dari is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the refugee context may also be beneficial, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries.
