The organization aims to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing expert advice, training, and support for development programs. UNDP's mission is to help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, and institutional capabilities to sustain development results. The organization employs thousands of staff members worldwide, including experts in various fields such as governance, crisis response, and environmental sustainability. UNDP's work is characterized by a commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and collaboration with various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and the private sector.
Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Civic Engagement within the UNDP's Open and Inclusive Public Sphere Portfolio is designed to support the development of branding and communication materials for the 'Promoting Participation Pathways for Human Development' (3P4D) initiative. This initiative is focused on creating an enabling environment for public participation and aims to promote structural reforms that foster inclusivity in civic engagement. The volunteer will work closely with the Civic Engagement Policy Specialist to familiarize themselves with the initiative's key concepts and goals, and will be responsible for designing and developing various branding materials that reflect the initiative's vision. The role offers an opportunity to engage with the Governance Team at UNDP and gain insights into the organization's efforts to promote just, peaceful, and inclusive societies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Familiarizing themselves with the 3P4D initiative's key concepts and UNDP's work on promoting an inclusive public sphere.
Designing and developing branding materials, including a modern and inclusive logo that embodies the initiative's vision.
Creating a cohesive visual identity that includes color schemes, typography, and graphic styles in line with UNDP's aesthetic guidelines.
Preparing brand guidelines for the consistent application of visual elements and messaging across communication materials.
Designing communication templates for social media platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, ensuring they align with the 3P4D branding.
Developing branded presentation templates for internal and external use.
Ensuring that all materials reflect the inclusive and supportive nature of the initiative and consider the multicultural aspect involving countries like Somalia, Senegal, Mongolia, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
Strong graphic design skills with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or similar tools.
Experience in branding and visual identity development.
Understanding of civic engagement, social inclusion, and public participation concepts.
Ability to create visually appealing and accessible communication materials.
Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to brand guidelines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members.
Educational Background: Candidates should ideally have a background in graphic design, communications, marketing, or a related field. A degree or coursework in these areas is preferred, but relevant experience and a strong portfolio may also be considered.
Experience: While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of graphic design principles and have a portfolio showcasing their design work. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in the field of civic engagement is a plus.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all communication and materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the countries involved in the initiative (Somalia, Senegal, Mongolia, Kenya, and Sri Lanka), would be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a remote volunteer position, allowing for flexible working hours. The duration of the contract is not specified, but the volunteer is expected to commit to the project for a reasonable period to ensure the successful development of branding and communication materials. This role is suitable for individuals looking to gain experience in international development, graphic design, and civic engagement initiatives.
