Job Overview:
The Internal Audit Specialist position at UNICEF is a critical role within the Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI). This position involves providing independent and objective assurance and advisory services to enhance the operations of UNICEF. The specialist will assist the Internal Audit Manager and/or Senior Internal Audit Manager, and may occasionally lead a team. The role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of internal auditing, capable of working with minimal supervision. Key functions include participating in risk assessments, planning assurance and advisory services, assessing governance and risk management processes, and preparing draft reports for review. The specialist will also contribute to the development of internal audit policies and procedures, ensuring that UNICEF's objectives are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in risk assessments and planning for assurance and advisory services.
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes in the areas covered.
  • Prepare draft reports based on the assigned areas, incorporating feedback from clients, team leaders, and OIAI management.
  • Contribute to OIAI’s risk-based work planning activities.
  • Assist in the development of professional internal audit policies and procedures.
  • Engage in knowledge management and capacity development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure effective audit execution and reporting.
  • Stay updated on best practices in internal auditing and apply them to UNICEF’s operations.
  • Support the Internal Audit Manager in various audit-related tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: A Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Prevention, Information Technology, or related fields. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in audit and investigation, including internal and external auditing.
  • Skills: Strong skills in audit governance, risk management, analytical thinking, and problem-solving are essential.
  • Knowledge of internal audit standards and practices is preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Prevention, or Information Technology. A Bachelor’s degree may be accepted if combined with additional relevant work experience. Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) are highly desirable.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant work experience in audit and investigation, with a strong background in internal and external auditing. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of effectively assessing governance and risk management processes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.
